When we’re trying to lose weight, we definitely need to live our lives still and go out every now and again when we want to. There are ways to find a healthy balance so you can have a blast with your friends whilst still reaching your goals.
So, we’re here to help you find that balance! From building a healthy relationship with your weight loss to some healthier alternatives and other things you can do to help you feel great, we’ve got it all covered. So, throw on your best going out dresses, grab your friends and have a great time!
The first thing to remember is that one meal or night won’t impact your progress. If you’re out every weekend eating whatever you want, it might take longer for you to see results. However, if you go out every now and again and indulge, then it’s not going to make a major difference. Life’s too short to say no to plans all the time in order to meet your fitness goals, so instead, go out, have fun, and enjoy yourself.
If your friends do go out quite a bit and you don’t want to miss out, there are some simple swaps you can make to help reduce your calorie intake. Instead of indulging in high-calorie foods all evening, perhaps opt for lighter, healthier options instead to really cut down. If you’re heading out for a meal, perhaps share a starter and dessert with a friend, or choose a slightly lighter main that tastes amazing.
Another option would be to suggest healthier plans altogether. Instead of going out to eat, why not go for a nice walk or run, then head for an iced coffee afterwards? You could go to a new fitness class together, like yoga or reformer pilates. Perhaps try a new sport, like padel or badminton. You could go for an outdoor swim and enjoy a healthy bowl afterwards, or take a healthy picnic to a park to enjoy with your friends.
When dining out, consider making healthier choices such as opting for grilled rather than fried foods, choosing salads or vegetable-based dishes, and keeping portion sizes in check. Hydrate well throughout the day, and remember that moderation is key.
You can definitely still enjoy yourself without missing out on making memories with your friends!
Another good compromise so you can create a healthy balance is to move your body every day. When you’re having fun with your friends eating or drinking, it can make your body feel quite drained, so you should have a goal to move your body every day. Some days (perhaps when you’re feeling a bit tired) could be much more gentle like a walk or a light stretch, then other days you can do your more intense workouts like running, circuits or sports.
To keep things balanced, try to maintain your regular workout routine and healthy eating habits on the days you’re not out with friends. This way, you can enjoy those special outings guilt-free. Additionally, look for ways to incorporate movement into your social activities. Suggest going for a walk, bike ride, or even a dance class. These activities can be just as enjoyable and help you stay active.
Whilst you might not feel very motivated to move your body, you’ll feel so much better afterwards, and it will help you to create the balance you’re looking for to continue hitting your goals and staying in shape.
Finally, remember that socializing is also about connecting with friends and family. Focus on the experience and the company rather than just the food. By making mindful choices and keeping a balanced perspective, you can enjoy your social life without compromising your fitness goals.
